Snohomish History and Earl Averill
Averill Youth Complex is named after Earl Averill, the "Earl of Snohomish". Earl was the Cleveland Indians' centerfielder who compiled a lifetime batting average of .318, 238 homeruns and 1164 runs batted in over 13 seasons (1929-1941). hit a homerun in his first major league at bat, the first American Leaguer to ever turn that trick. The Earl of Snohomish was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1975. He was 81 years old when he died in 1983, and is buried here in Snohomish.
