Long-time garbage provider Republic Services started a new contract to serve city residents on April 1. Garbage bills now come directly from Republic, rather than from the city. While the city billed every two months, Republic bills for three months at a time – the May bill covers April, May and June.
Customers have noticed that their latest garbage bills are higher. That’s because of the longer billing cycle (three months vs. two). Monthly rates are actually slightly lower for most customers – those with weekly 32-gallon pickup.
New 32-gallon garbage containers are being delivered to most households as part of the new contract. Wheeled carts are more efficient and safe for garbage collectors, who have to manually lift regular garbage cans. Customers can still use their old cans for extra garbage, yard debris or recycling.
If you have a question or concern about your garbage or recycling service, contact contact Republic directly via their website or by phone at 425-778-0188. The company has online bill pay and a downloadable app to give customers easy access to their accounts for payment or service changes.
Garbage service is required within city limits. Low income senior and disabled customers may be eligible for a discount.
